EKSU ASUU BRANCH:We Haven’t Canceled Our Strike

ASUU suspends its longest industrial action in history. Students who seem to have been crippled academically as a result of this strike  are once again
stimulated while preparing for
resumption. It should be recollected that on Tuesday,22nd of December 2020, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made an optimistic announcement that the
ongoing strike by university lecturers would soon be called off, while also reporting that the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi announced that there would be a press meeting to hold between ASUU and its components would be declared openly.

ASUU, at the press briefing today, has decided to “conditionally” cancel its 9 monthly old strikes while reaffirming that it would undertake another strike with no warnings if Federal Government reneges on their agreement.

 

Professor Ogunyemi also comprehended students in all public varsities for their
understanding throughout the significant period, mentioning that “no amount of casualty would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is compatible with its
commitments.”However, the ASUU chairman reported that the ball is in the court of Federal
Government to specify the reopening of schools and academic activities due to the pandemic rebirth in the country.
Meanwhile, Ekiti state university chapter of the national union is yet to cancel its industrial action owing to lasting spates of issues with the institution’s management.

While talking with the chairman of
Asuu-Eksu, Dr. Arogundade conveyed that the local union will hold a meeting tomorrow 24th of December to examine the
the fate of the state varsity position in the current development.
